A few days ago my main Twitter account reached 10,000 followers and because it has a big significance to me I wanted to share with you my journey that took me to that number.
Now, of course I’m not gonna stop here, I mean after all they say after 10,000 followers on Twitter there’s no limits, right?
But besides the fact that this milestone has a personal motivational significance to me its also important because Twitter is one of my main traffic sources after search engine traffic (20.66%) and traffic coming from MyBlogLog (15.26%) with 12.91%, according to Google Analytics.
You might be thinking that’s way to low and you’re probably right taking in consideration that the conversion rates are very low compared to the number of followers. But it is still a targeted traffic source and I’ve been getting subscribers to my ebook “The 353% Twitter Traffic” that I recently decided to give it away for free.
By the way, the ebook describes how I accidentally found out what Twitter was all about and finally helped me understand the principles behind Twitter and social media. That single discovery took me from a small struggling 500 followers account to the 10,000 followers today.
But how exactly I got to 10,000 followers? Well, I knew people are interested in good quality tweets possibly taking them to quality content like videos and articles.
Now, I was aware that I couldn’t provide that content on my own blog so instead I decided to do something different (Something that later on I’ve noticed on other Twitter users).
What I did was provide my followers with quality tweets using other social media channels that provide high quality content almost every hour of the day. All I had to do was to channel that content through my Twitter account. Eventually I was providing quality tweets almost every minute or so, fully on autopilot, content that my followers could relate to and find it useful.
Click the image on the left to see how many clicks I get to any of my tweets. You might be thinking its stupid to drive all that traffic to places that are already on mainstream channels instead of driving the traffic to your own blogs, websites, videos, products and services.
But let me tell you why its not like that at all. When you continuously provide quality tweets to your followers they will instantly see you as someone who they want to follow and possibly find out more about you, this eventually leading to clicks on your Twitter profile and visits to your website.
Then things start to pick up as people start retweeting your tweets first of all because they are quality tweets and second because they already follow you and respect you. And to really get the viral snow ball effect rolling all you have to do is thank them for retweeting your tweets and before you know it thousands start following you.
And
before you know it people respect you so much that you end up being followed on lists right next to Guy Kawasaki (@GuyKawasaki) and Pete Cashmore (@Mashable).
I accidentally found this list created by one of my followers as I made my self a habit of following all the lists that I’m included in. It was such a pleasant surprise to see me, practically a nobody, next to those two giants of social media. I kept asking my self how did this happen?
But it did! And I’m confident that from this point forward there’s only good things that can happen on Twitter and I intend to go even more deeper with my knowledge about how to leverage Twitter to generate more traffic, more leads and subscribers and hopefully more happy customers

Hi Remi,
I’m going on my 2 month on twitter and its alot more difficult to get a mass following then I thought. I havn’t followed any lists but I have 12 lists with me. Is following lists and using hashtags an important thing to do?
Sam
Hi Sam,
Thanks for the visit. Appreciate you taking the time to comment

Yes, it’s a difficult road but if you manage to get at least 10% of your followers to be laser targeted, you’re on the right track!
And to answer your question about following lists and using hashtags here’s my view:
Think about it as exposure. I mean every time you follow a list you expose your Twitter username potentially bringing at least a couple of targeted prospects to your Twitter page and from there to your website / affiliate website.
The same goes for hashtags. Using hashtags targeted to your niche will expose your Twitter username to virtually thousands of prospects by automatically entering in specific search patterns. And that’s only a fancy way of saying if someone searches for a specific hashtag your Twitter profile could come up
Hope this sheds a bit of light on Twitter
Cheers, Remi
