How To Establish Credibility On The Internet?

by Remi Vladuceanu on January 10, 2010

In any business, no matter what market, online or offline, there has to be a certain amount of credibility or else the business model you try to develop is a failure from the get-go. So how do we go about establishing and developing credibility for our online business, in our case?

How do we build up the very blood stream of our entire business so that potential clients and customers will thoughtlessly trust our business and ultimately trust us?

Well, the answer is not as difficult as it might look like. Meaning, it’s not that difficult to get people to trust you, genuinely. The important thing is to have a plan. A business plan, more exactly. And preferably, a business plan that actually works. I have seen too many times people wasting their precious time without even having a working viable business plan.

I guess it’s logical to say that everybody knows how important credibility is in any business because without credibility you can’t really ‘connect’ with your potential clients and eventually you end up loosing them.

So I went ahead and searched for the top 5 ways to establish credibility online:

  1. Your online presence is crucial and it must convey a credible image. You can do that with a professionally looking website, maintaining a pleasant visual effect. If you decide to go with a blog, make sure you select a proper blogging platform like WordPress and a nice looking template that matches your niche or what exactly is you do online.
  2. Make sure you have a contact form on your blog or website, a phone number, fax number and your mailing address. It’s a good thing for people to realize you are a real person and they can contact you and communicate with you as a real live person.
  3. Use a privacy statement on your website so that your visitors will feel protected and they information kept private. Always tell them what kind of information you are going to collect from them. And be specific like first name and email address.
  4. If you are selling products or services, make sure you use testimonials that will consolidate the trust people have in you and your products or services. Make sure you are up to date with the latest Federal Trade Commission’s regulations regarding testimonials.
  5. It’s always a good idea to offer a free subscription to a daily newsletter. That way you can build your subscribers list that later on can become your customers, clients or affiliates. And you can also establish a daily communication channel with your potential customers.

I probably only scratched the surface with these 5 key elements for successfully establishing credibility online as there are probably a dozen more tactics and techniques you can use that combined all have a positive result on your online presence.
