10 things you didn’t know about social media

In the last couple of months, social media has picked up like crazy! It became the Holy-Grail of any highly efficient marketing campaign, starting with as little as a simple advertising campaign and finishing up with a mega-branding campaign.

Everybody is talking about social media; everybody is sharing their on personal views on social media, what it is and what it can do.

But the fact of the matter is, very few people know how to actually harness the full potential of social media, even though it is available to anyone nowadays.

Trying to capture the best interesting things about social media in a single article, led me to write these 10 best facts about social media directly or indirectly. Because the fact is not always directly related to social media but it has a very close connection to it.

So, without any further add-ons here are the 10 Things You Didn’t Know About Social Media:

1. You probably would never guess this but 60% of Americans use social media and 25% interact at least once a week using social networking and various tools like social networking platforms. And that includes the 75% of active online users who have read a blog at least once in their lifetime. Not to mention the 45% who already started a blog. That means around 180,000,000 Americans use social media every single day!

2. It’s nothing new that TV ad campaigns don’t work anymore and marketing agencies turn to social media for better results with fewer costs. But I bet you didn’t know that only 18% of TV ad campaigns generate positive ROI (Return-On-Investment)!

3. We come to the point where only 14% of people trust advertising. The rest trusts the better judgment of their friends and family who are already customers of products and services they would like to get feedback on or the one we are interested in. And what do you call that? I think its social media!

4. If 10 years ago we where the type of remotely controlled consumers who watched TV ads and commercials and acted on them, now more than 78% of people trust the recommendations of other consumers, shifting the way marketing and our social lives interact.

5. Now people understand the word ‘BRAND’ and understand the importance of personal brand and how it interacts with the world, because social media is all about personal branding. And now we can see the social branding going on social networking platforms like Twitter and Facebook.

Thanks for reading. The next part will be released in a future blog post.
